Xiaomi officials address the recent fire incident involving their SU7 sedan in China, clarifying the cause and addressing concerns. The fire, which occurred in Yingkou, Liaoning Province, sparked discussions about the origin of the blaze and the unusual 'firework-like' explosions. According to Xiaomi Auto's statement, the fire started in the driver's seat on February 1, caused by a residual fire source inside the vehicle. The company emphasizes that the car's battery was not the cause, and the 'firework' sounds were due to deploying airbags. Xiaomi assures that the fire was quickly extinguished, and no injuries were reported. This incident highlights a common issue with EV fires in China, often attributed to flammable objects left inside the vehicle. The Xiaomi SU7, a popular Chinese electric car, has seen significant sales and praise from industry leaders. The upcoming 2024 model year SU7 features impressive specifications, including a 4997/1963/1455 mm body and a 495 kW (664 hp) AWD variant. However, the new SU7, set to launch on March 19, will offer enhanced features such as dual-chamber air suspension, an extended range of up to 902 km, and a peak power of 508 kW (681 hp). The price range is between 229,900 and 309,900 yuan (33,115 – 44,640 USD).
