The statistics are concerning: NHS Somerset reports that nearly 30% of individuals aged over 80 and almost 50% of those over 75 have not received the RSV vaccine. This is despite the fact that, on average, around 9,000 people aged 75 and above are hospitalized annually due to RSV infections, according to NHS data.

The vaccine is being offered to a specific demographic: individuals aged 75 to 79, those who turned 80 after September 1, 2024, and pregnant women from 28 weeks onward. The latter group is included as the vaccine also provides protection to newborns during their early months of life.
