Jesy Nelson's Twins: A Story of Twin Bonding and Overcoming SMA (2026)

Imagine having a twin, a built-in support system, especially when facing a challenging health condition like spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). This is the reality for identical twins Sam and Alex Bolton, who, despite their diagnosis at a young age, are determined to live life to the fullest.

The brothers, now 20, were born prematurely in 2006 and diagnosed with SMA type two when they were just 18 months old. Their story is one of resilience and ambition, and it's a story that resonates with former Little Mix star Jesy Nelson, whose young twins also face SMA type one.

But here's where it gets controversial... the twins believe that their shared experience as identical twins with SMA has given them an unspoken bond and a unique understanding of each other's struggles. And this is the part most people miss - the power of having a sibling who truly gets it.

"Being a twin with SMA is a blessing," Sam explains. "It's like having a built-in support system. We understand each other's challenges and can offer support in a way that only we can."

Alex adds, "It's not just about understanding, it's about living it together. We've been through the same struggles, and that creates a bond that's hard to explain."

The twins' mother, Sarah Wilson, couldn't agree more. "They've surpassed every expectation," she says. "They've never let SMA hold them back, and they inspire me every day."

Sam and Alex are now in their final year of a degree in Film and TV production, and they have big dreams of working together in television, just like Ant and Dec.

And they're not alone in their support for early SMA testing. Jesy Nelson's campaign for all babies to be tested for SMA at birth has gained traction, with the twins backing her bid.

"Early detection and treatment are key," Sam emphasizes. "While we may not see a cure for SMA in our lifetime, early access to treatments can be life-changing."

Alex agrees, "It's about ensuring that SMA doesn't limit our lives. With the right treatment, we can live fulfilling lives, and that's what we want for Jesy's twins too."

So, what do you think? Is having a twin with the same health condition a blessing or a challenge? Could it be both? Share your thoughts in the comments - we'd love to hear your perspective on this unique and inspiring story.
